Basic requirement: A healthy flat roof
Installing a solar power station on an expansive flat roof requires an initial financial outlay. The payback period, and whether the installation will break even at all, depends to a large extent on its lifespan. As with every other product, the care with which components are selected and matched to each other will impact the power station’s performance. The SUNOVA solar power systems are designed to provide a high yield for well over 20 years.
To guarantee its customers an installation that will remain profitable for many years, SUNOVA first takes a close look at the foundation for the solar power station: the roof sealing layer. This is where the SUNOVA specialists’ in-depth knowledge of flat roof technology comes into play: If the roof’s sealing layer shows weak points or is simply too old, SUNOVA cooperates with flat roof specialists to take all measures necessary to establish a healthy, firm basis for the new solar power station.
Roof sealing requirements
SUNOVA works only with materials that are compatible with each other. This avoids undesirable interaction between the roof’s sealing layer and the applied components. For the SUNOVA MCG fixing systems, this quality consideration places specific demands on the nature of the roof sealing:
- Because the SUNOVA profile retainers that connect the supporting structure and the roof’s sealing layer with each other are made from synthetic material, the sealing layer must also be synthetic. On existing buildings the roof sealing must have a remaining lifespan of at least 20 years. Where the roof sealing is renovated or renewed, only roof systems with a manufacturer’s lifetime guarantee of at least 20 years and a predicted lifespan of at least 40 years are used. The sealing layer must be physically fixed to the roof against wind suction.
- To ensure flat roof stability, SUNOVA prefers fixing technologies with a manufacturer’s wind suction stability guarantee of at least 20 years.
Roof pitch and structure requirements
- For SUNOVA’s solar power systems flat roofs with a pitch of between 1 and 10 degrees.
- In terms of their weight, the complete systems have been devised specifically to be compatible with the lightweight roofs of many industrial and commercial buildings. Depending on the MCG system used, the complete system has a weight of between 9 and 16 kg per square meter.
